The fireworks event has been around since 1985, but was turned into a competition 16 years ago. Since then, 141 wow gold fireworks displays designed and musically synchronized by 46 individual firms from 19 countries have competed for a Gold Jupiter award. The last time Canada won gold wow gold was in 2003, for a display designed by the firm Royal Pyrotechnie from St. Pie.
